Auburn School District To Offer Ag Program
01/16/2014

(KLZA) -- The Auburn School District has utilized a $16,000 grant to review the districts vocational curriculum.  During Monday’s Board meeting, approval was given to hire an instructor for an Ag Program in the district to begin with the 2014-15 school year.  Following  several months of review with community leaders and a re-write of some of the curriculums,  the lack of an ag program was noted.

The Board did reorganize for the next year. Dr. Michael  Zaruba will serve as Board President,  Stephen Kennedy will be the Vice President,  Reiman will serve as Secretary and Kelly Fogerty who works at Carson National Bank will be the new Treasurer.  She replaces Elaine Bray who is retiring.

The Auburn Board also approved an agreement with the teachers for the 2014-15 school year. The new agreement calls for an additional $400 on the base pay and adds two additional days for students next year and two more professional development days.

The Auburn School Board has agreed to purchase a new school bus utilizing a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Clean Diesel program. A 2015 Thomas Bus will be purchased.  The cost of the bus with a Green Diesel Engine is $82,000. The grant will cover $25,000 of the total cost.

Earlier this year an Auburn School District school bus was totaled in an accident and a newer used bus was purchased.  On Monday of this week another Auburn School District bus was rear-ended by a semi and sustained an estimated $10,000 damage.

A bid in the amount of $2,950 was awarded to Wilson Electric of Auburn.  The work will be for the upcoming gymnasium renovation.  The new bleachers will be motorized and the electric work is required for the bleachers.

Board members also accepted the resignation of longtime secondary chemistry and physics teacher George Weiss.
