(KLZA) -- The Auburn School Board approved two retirements, three resignations and four new hires when they met Monday evening.
Retiring will be Calvert Elementary teachers Gene Anderson and Helen Pugh. Resignations were accepted from Secondary Language Arts teacher Samantha Schmidt, Middle School Math teacher Karen Hunzeker and Band Instructor Trent Stump.
New hires in the Auburn School District for the 2014-15 school year will be Randy Hall from Sabetha as a Secondary Math teacher; Angela Becker who will be a Middle School Math teacher, Ben Hanika who will be the Band Instructor and his wife Sara Hanika who will be a Secondary Science instructor.
Superintendent Kevin Reiman reported good news. The Auburn School District will get approximately $60,000 more in state aid for the next school year. The increase is primarily due to being able to count the 4-year olds in the Pre-school.
The Board did approved a contract for painting in the gymnasium in the amount of $25,555, $20,420 for new steel railings in the gym and voted to declare the gym bleachers and floor excess equipment so they can be sold.
Superintendent Reiman also noted that a settlement has been agreed upon for a school bus involved in a wreck this past winter when a semi-truck ran into the back of a bus that was not carrying students. The school district will received $44,900 which allows the bus to be replaced without any cost to the district.
Auburn School Board members also approved running a Summer lunch program June 2nd through the 27th. The program is run in accordance with NDE and the USDA. Any child 1 – 18 can eat for free. If well attended the program could be extended longer. School staff will do the cooking. It is likely the lunches will be served at Calvert Elementary School but the final details are still being worked out. Superintendent Reiman says if the program manages to make some money it can be utilized by the school lunch program beginning in August.. The reimbursement rate is higher than during the regular school year.
Board members also approved proclamations for National Teacher Appreciation Week May 5-9 and School Nutrition Employee Week May 5 – 9.
