05/15/2014

(KLZA) -- The Auburn Board of Education approved purchase orders for the 2014-15 school year when they met Monday.  Superintendent Kevin Reiman praised the staff for cutting back.

Several new hires were approved during the meeting.  Emily Zech, Tiffany Anderson, Mckenzie Gerdes and Lacey Gerdes will serve as new elementary teachers staring next fall.  Diana Eickhoff was hired to teach Middle School and High School English.

Expenditures for cement work were also approved during the meeting. Some patch work in the high school parking lot will be done and a retaining wall is to be built on the west side of Calvert Elementary School to help with runoff issues when it rains. The Board also approved the purchase of bathroom walls for the high school gym project as well as the elementary school. $38,000 will be the cost for a new Special Education Bus to replace a bus damaged in an accident earlier this year. The bus will have a lift.

Tia Miller will become a full-time pre-school teacher beginning next year at Auburn. $125,000 in grant monies will be utilized to fund the specialized all-day pre-school designed to help students with special needs.

A number of policy revisions were approved and a teaching contract with Kevin Walker was approved by the Auburn School Board.

The Board also approved a $4 price tag for adults eating lunch at the school this summer. Some area day-care programs are expected to take advantage of the free lunches for kids up to 18.  Any adult may eat for the $4 price.

Some of the people working on the gym renovation may take advantage of the meals being served.
