(KTNC)-- A man from Sterling was injured when his car ran into the back of a cattle trailer Monday evening. The collision happened at the intersection of Highways 4 and 105 in Pawnee County, shortly before 6:30 Monday evening.
According to the report from the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Robert Reed was driving a 2005 Buick Century eastbound on Highway 4, following a pick-up pulling a cattle trailer.
The report says Reed attempted to pass the pickup near the intersection as the pickup driver, Gary Gerdes of Humboldt, attempted to turn left onto Highway 105. Reed tried to stop, but was unable to avoid colliding with the back of the trailer.
Reed was transported by Humboldt EMS to the Pawnee County Hospital with what were described as disabling facial injuries.
Reed told investigators he didn’t see a turn signal from the pickup or trailer. The trailer’s lights were damaged in the accident and authorities were unable to tell whether the lights worked before the crash.
Reed was cited for attempting to pass in a no passing zone.
