Nebraska's Jordan Hooper became the first sophomore in Husker women's basketball history to earn All-America honors, when the Associated Press announced its teams on Tuesday.
Hooper, a 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., ranked fourth in the Big Ten in scoring (18.9 ppg) and led the conference in rebounding (9.3 rpg) in her second season with the Huskers. She became the first sophomore in Nebraska history to reach the 1,000-point mark, finishing 2011-12 ranked No. 22 on NU's all-time list with 1,078 points. Hooper also became the first sophomore to score more than 600 points and grab more than 300 rebounds in a season.
Hooper ranked among the top 30 players nationally in scoring and the top 50 in rebounding. She also led the Big Ten with 14 double-doubles on the year. She is on pace to set Nebraska's career three-point record, hitting 134 through her first two seasons.
A first-team All-Big Ten selection, Hooper was also a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament Team as a sophomore, before being named to the WBCA All-Region 6 Team. She was added to the midseason watch lists for both the Wade Trophy and the Naismith Trophy.
Previously, Anna DeForge was the only underclassmen in school history to earn All-America honors. DeForge, who went on to become a two-time WNBA All-Star, was an AP honorable-mention All-American as both a junior (1996-97) and senior (1997-98).
