The city of Atchison has been named Tree City U.S.A. for its 30th consecutive year.
The honor from the Forester Program at Kansas State University’s honor gave the city the 4th longest tenure for that designation in the state.
According to Atchison Tree Board Supervisor Jeff Gassman says they are going to celebrate the honor in accordance with Arbor Day on April 29th.

The city has also ordered signs to be placed at the north and south city limits of town reflecting the honor.
Also, for the first time ever, the city of Atchison was the winners of the Growth Award.
Gassman says a lot of beautification efforts must go into winning that award.

The Park Board aims to go to the City Commission in hopes of a proclamation for the honor.
