Auburn city officials want to take steps to lower the speed limit on a road leading into town. Mayor Scott Kudrna and Police Chief Kris Baker met with Nemaha County Commissioners Wednesday about traffic control on West 26th Street.
Mayor Kudrna told commissioners that the city has received several complaints about vehicles speeding on 738 Road, east into the Auburn city limits. Kudrna and Baker asked the county commission to initiate an engineering study to reduce the speed limit to 35 or 40 miles-per-hour on 638 Avenue and 738 Road, east to the city limits.
Highway Superintendent Mark Mainelli visited with the board about changing the speed limit on 738 Road. He explained that the city of Auburn should contact their engineer to request a study be conducted.
In other business Wednesday, Nemaha County Commissioners opened sealed bids for corrugated metal pipe. The board accepted the low bid from Ace Eaton Metals in the amount of $23,988.
Meeting as a Board of Equalization, commissioners approved motor vehicle tax exemptions for three organizations – Hearts United for Animals, St. James Lutheran Church, and LL Coryell and Son Park Foundation – along with three tax list corrections.
