The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat baseball team will be heading to Paducah, Ky., to participate in the 2012 NAIA Baseball Opening Round.
Peru State marked its first season in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) by winning the 2012 HAAC Tournament with a 4-3 triumph over Central Methodist University (CMU), Saturday afternoon at Phil Welch Stadium, in St. Joseph, Mo.
In addition to being the first Bobcat team to win a HAAC title, the 2011-12 Peru State team is the first to qualify for the national tournament.
Peru State, is the fourth seed in the Paducah bracket. Earning the top seed in the bracket is LSU Shreveport (48-4). The other teams in the bracket include #2 – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (41-14), #3 – Bellevue (Neb.) (39-19), the Bobcats (35-16), and #5 – Grand View (Iowa) (27-27).
Peru State will face Grand View in their opening game on May 10 with the winner to face LSU Shreveport. Game times have not yet been released.
