Holt County is seeking to purchase the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Maintenance Barn at Oregon.
The County Commission has offered MoDOT $80,000 to purchase the buildings and five acres of land, with a $10,000 down payment, $30,000 paid this December, $20,000 in 2013, and $20,000 in 2014.
The Missouri Department of Transportation closed its Oregon facility last year and consolidated operations in Holt County at its Mound City facility, as a cost-savings measure.
Holt County has expressed interest in purchasing the MoDOT facility to replace the current county barn, which consist of two metal sheds in Oregon. County officials say the MoDOT barn would offer the county more room to store its trucks and machinery.
Holt County Commissioners also plan to have the current county barn appraised and sold to help offset the costs of purchasing the MoDOT facility.
The county has yet to receive a response from MoDOT officials to the county’s offer.
