An Onaga teenager was accidentally killed Saturday while hunting in a rural area near Havensville in Pottawatomie County.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat says the sheriff’s office was notified at 7:15 a.m. of a gunshot-related accident near Cow Creek Road.
Riat says emergency responders found 15-year-old Mitchell Hermreck had been shot.
Hermreck was transported to the Community Hospital in Onaga, where he was pronounced dead.
Riat says Hermreck was turkey hunting with a friend who accidentally shot him.
The incident was investigated by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s office and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
Hermreck was a freshman at Onaga High School.
Funeral mass for Hermreck will be held Wednesday morning in Onaga.
