After only throwing 13 pitches before leaving Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox's, Danny Duffy was taken out the game with tightness in his left elbow. It's the same elbow that cause him to miss a scheduled start earlier this season.
Duffy flew back to Kansas City to have an MRI on his elbow and the news continually got worse for the Royals as it was determined the Duffy suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, meaning likely tommy john surgery for the left-hander likely ending Duffy's season for the Royals.
After hearing the news the Royals moved Duffy to the 15-day disabled list, recalling long reliever, Nate Adcock from Triple AAA Omaha. Duffy became the second Royals starter to be on the disabled list currently joining Jonathan Sanchez.
Duffy will seek another opinion on his elbow, but will likely have pitched his last pitch for the Royals this season. He is 2-2 on the year with a 3.90 ERA in six starts, this year.
Sanchez's will be replaced by Vin Mazzaro in his schedule start for the second game of the two-game series with the Texas Rangers. Duffy will likely be replaced in the rotation by either Nate Adcock, Luis Mendoza or possibly Royals could recall Everett Teaford from Triple AAA Omaha.
