It's good news for USD 430, as the South Brown County Schools experience a drop in health insurance rates.
That financial assistance was announced by Superintendent Doctor Steve Davies during Monday night's meeting of the Board of Education(Play Audio :19 seconds)
Once that happened, the board moved forward with accepting the figures, voting unanimously to stay with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The matter of insurance took a twist during the meeting, unrelated to the district's policy.
Instead, it was insurance related to events, such as outside football camps, that drew the attention of board member Roger Madere.
Explaining that he had placed a phone call to the Kansas Association of School Boards, Madere said the woman with whom he spoke said allowing such camps is a bad idea, with any related incident falling on the district.
That's due, Madere said, to the fact that those who operate such camps are not district employees, and fees are charged for those who attend the camps, held on district property. Many of the attendees are from outside the district.
Ultimately, following lengthy discussion, it was decided that a legal decision will be sought, prior to any additional such camps being held on district grounds.
