An Atchison Police Officer has filed for the Republican nomination for Atchison County Sheriff.
According to the Atchison County Clerk’s office, John “Jack” Laurie IV filed Wednesday afternoon by petition.
He is the first candidate to file for the position.
Democratic Incumbent Sheriff John Calhoon has yet to file for the post he has held since 1994.
Candidates have until noon on June 1st to file.
