UPDATE: Traffic Violation Leads to High Speed Chase
05/21/2012

A Savannah, Missouri man was arrested Sunday evening in Atchison on multiple charges following a high speed chase.

According to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Bryan Clark, he attempted to initiate a traffic stop for an alleged seatbelt violation around 7:15 near Omaha junction in Atchison

The vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Ricky Billings, then took off, leading the trooper on a chase south of 59 highway on 14th street at speeds in excess of 80 miles an hour.

Clark called for assistance from Atchison Police and the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department.

Clark says Sheriff’s Deputies later located the vehicle abandoned in the 1100 block of U Street. After receiving tips from the public, authorities were able to locate Billings after a lengthy foot chase.

Trooper Clark says billings was booked into the Atchison County Jail on possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony fleeing and eluding, felony obstruction, driving while suspended and driving under the influence.

Clark says authorities seized substances believed to be methamphetamine along with cash.

KQ2 News reports Billings is also wanted by police in Country Club Village in Andrew County, Missouri on 11 charges stemming from a brief pursuit on May 16th.

The charges range from assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest to driving on a suspended license and speeding.

The police department said Billings hit a patrol car, and then fled following an attempted traffic stop.

Billings remains in Atchison County Jail on 20 thousand dollars bond and faces 12 formal charges in Atchison County. However, the hold from Andrew County makes Billings ineligible to bond out.
