The summer recreation ball season in Atchison is underway, with one of those fields now dedicated to fallen Atchison Police Sergeant David Enzbrenner.
Over 100 people gathered Tuesday evening at what is now field 309 as County Commissioner Jeff Schuele read a proclamation for the field that Enzbrenner coached many of his daughter’s softball games on.
Sgt. Enzbrenner’s widow, Kerri, said choosing that field was perfectly fitting.

Kerri and her three daughters threw out the first pitch for the field.
David’s college roommate at K-State and best man in his wedding, Mark Mikkelson, also was on hand for the festivities.
He believes David would have been humbled that citizens would be doing this for him and the community.

It’s been a busy month for the Enzbrenner family, as they have attended several ceremonies to honor David on the local, state and national levels.
Kerri reflects on those ceremonies.

The ceremony also featured a mural of David, constructed by Atchison Middle School students.
