Hundreds of citations were issued within Atchison city limits over the past two weeks for seatbelt violations as part of the “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
According to Atchison Police Lieutenant Tim Stout, officers issued 301 total citations for the period of May 21st through June 3rd.
Of those citations, nine of them were for teens from 14 to 17 that were not buckled up.
Zero citations were issued for children under 14 and no DUI citations were written during the period.
However, a seat belt violation traffic stop led to a major drug bust.
Stout says the citations increased from 2011.
Seat belt violations, by state law, carry a 10 dollar fine.
