Seneca Knocks of Sabetha in League action

Sabetha came into the night as the only team without an Northeast Kansas League loss this season, but Seneca looked to change that as they played host to Sabetha.

It was a pitching matchup one of each teams top pitchers, in Riley Wells for Sabetha and Dylan Kramer for Seneca. They were the starting pitchers the first time these teams meet up with each other in the Northeast Kansas League Preseason tournament earlier this season, which resulted in a 11-3, Seneca win. Sabetha later took a double-header against Seneca, so this was the fourth time the teams have meet this season.

Sabetha got the scoring going early, plating one-run in the first inning, after Thaine Allen reached on an error. Starting third baseman, Graham Droge came up with a single to drive in Allen for the Sabetha run, giving them an early 1-0 lead, but that would be all the runs scored by Sabetha, as Dylan Kramer would have a stellar pitching outing for Seneca.

Seneca responded in the second inning with a run of their own to tie the game 1-1 after two; then it would be Kramer aiding his cause with an RBI double in the third and then coming around to score, also in the inning as Seneca took the lead 3-1 and didn't look back. They would add three more runs in the fourth off a hit, pair of errors and a walk to lead it 6-1 and go on to win it by that margin.

The game didn't feature to much offense as Sabetha tallied four-hits, while Seneca finished with only three-hits themselves. Key to the game was the six errors charged to Sabetha that directly accounted for or aided Seneca on their run output.

Only one player had a multi-hit game and that was Droge, for Sabetha who went 3-3 with an RBI. Kramer, Michael Rottinghaus and Eric Huerter tallied the three-hits for Seneca, with Kramer and Huerter each getting a double.

Winning the game was Seneca 6-1, had Sabetha its first league loss of the year and winning the McDonald's "Player of the Game" was Dylan Kramer for his solid pitching outing going the distance, allowing only an unearned run on four hits, four walks and striking out 12, while throwing 120 pitches.

Seneca improved the season series with Sabetha to 2-2 and their overall record on the season to 14-4 (6-3 league) with the 6-1 win. Seneca will next been in action on Thursday on the road at Doniphan County; you can hear that game on Kanzaland radio (92.1 KMZA and 103.9 KNZA) at 8:00pm on Thursday. For Sabetha they suffered their first league loss and are now 8-1 in league play, 20-5 overall. Sabetha continues legion play tonight in a league double-header against Frankfort at 6:00 and 8:00pm.
