Only one Northeast Kansas league legion team was in action last night with Hiawatha splitting a double-header with Falls City. Tonight five of the eight league teams will be in action: Sabetha at Auburn (non-league) 8:00pm; Holton at Atchison 7:30pm and Royal Valley at Seneca 7:30pm.

Hiawatha Earns Split in Twinbill After Falling in Game One to Falls City

Hiawatha splits a non-league double-header with Falls City last night, as Falls City wins game one 14-11 and Hiawatha responded with a 7-4 nightcap win.

In game one Falls City utilized an early nine runs, scoring four in the second and five in the third to take the lead and would hold on to it despite Hiawatha's effort late in the game to try and mount comeback. Down 12-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, Hiawatha's bat's started to get going, plating four in that inning, scoring three more in the sixth, before Falls City would add two more in the top of the seventh. Falls City then leading 14-10 going into the seventh and Hiawatha down to their final three outs, would be able to only muster one run and fall 14-11 in the game. Hiawatha did out hit Falls City 14-12 in the loss behind, Dakota Bayles' 4-5 game with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Chase Thompson lead the offense for Falls City in the win with a 3-4 game with three runs scored and three RBI.

With the loss in game one Hiawatha was in search of the split in game two and came away with a 7-4 victory. Both teams got on the board early each with a run in the first inning, before the second inning proved to provide more runs, as Falls City went on to score three runs that inning, followed by Hiawatha tallying two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Leading it 4-3 at the time Falls City would be held scoreless the rest of the way, as Hiawatha would tie the game up in the third and go on to have a three run fourth to win the nightcap, 7-4. Hiawatha despite having six errors out hit Falls City 8-3 in the game. Quentin Overdick had the only multi-hit game in the second game for Hiawatha, going 2-3 with three RBI and a triple. Kyle White came on in relief for Shawn Green in the second inning and pitched the final four innings to earn the pitching victory.

Hiawatha with the the double-header split is now 9-22 on the season. Next up for the Hiawatha legion squad is another non-league double-header this Saturday against Marysville at 6:00 and 8:00pm.
