(KAIR) -- The brief thunderstorm that rolled through Atchison County Wednesday night caused numerous homes to be without power for a period of time.
According to Westar Spokeswoman Erin LaRow, 13 hundred 65 homes in the county lost power for 32 minutes, beginning at 8:16.
The areas affected were south of the railroad tracks in Atchison, south of Skyway Drive from 10th to 14th and its rural areas, and Skyway Drive, 2nd through 10th and its rural areas.
LaRow says the outage was caused by a tree getting caught into transmission lines during the storm.
Atchison City Manager Trey Cocking also reported one of the three city water pumps was destroyed after it was struck by lightning.
He says a rental pump has been installed, the city’s largest customers have been notified and there is currently no threat to the city water supply.
Numerous limbs were knocked down during the storm, which produced torrential rainfall.
An Atchison citizen also reported significant damage to their roof, with winds peeling a portion of their roof back.
