(KAIR) -- Atchison City Officials have announced the hiring of Rebecca Swain as its first Director of Finance/Assistant City Manager.
The Director of Finance/Assistant City Manager position is recognition of the evolution of the Director of Finance position over the past few years.
The position will lead the finance department, and will be responsible for the City’s corporate communications.
Swain says she hopes to continue the path was set for her beforehand.

Swain was chosen for the position after completing a grueling 24 hour interview process with the city, and interviewing with three different panels including a panel made up of community members, one of experts in municipal operations and finance, and one made up of the City’s department heads.
She describes her perspective from the interview.

Swain currently serves as the interim City Administrator of Cherryvale, Kansas.
Swain brings over five and half of experience in city finance and management, and an additional three years of experience in marketing.
Currently, Swain serves on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Association of City/County Managers, and is a member of the International City Manager’s Association.
Swain holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, and Master of Business Administration from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas.
Swain, a native of Salem, Oregon, has lived in Cherryvale for the last six years.
Swain will assume her duties on August 27th.
