(KTNC) - The Mound City Council awarded a contract to have some streets in town seal-coated when they met in special session last Thursday.
Aldermen awarded the contract to McFadden Construction of St. Joseph in the amount of $68,167. McFadden submitted the only bid for the project, which includes filling cracks and laying a seal coat on streets that were asphalted in 2008. The sealant should extend the life of the asphalt for several years.
McFadden Construction will begin the work today (Monday), and they should have the work done within 30 working days, depending on weather.
Aldermen voted to pay for the project out of the city’s General Fund. That will be reimbursed from the C-I-P Fund at a rate of $10,000 per year.
In other business, Mayor Chris Krueger reported on a meeting he and Alderwoman Kristine Gibson had with Randy Mendenhall of Snyder and Associates regarding a sidewalk project. The proposal is to replace about one mile of sidewalk along Nebraska Street from the school to the swimming pool parking lot.
Aldermen unanimously approved a motion to accept a proposal from Snyder and Associates to help the city with a Safe Routes to School grant application to pay for the new sidewalk at a cost of $750 to $1,000. The Safe Routes to School Grant would be 100-percent funded up to $250,000.
The council also discussed a Mo-DOT grant that would require a 20-percent match from the city.
Aldermen tabled action on financing $60,000 worth of playground equipment for city parks. City Clerk Patsy Smith presented proposals from Commerce Bank and Nodaway Valley Bank to finance the equipment. Aldermen will review the proposals at their October 4th meeting.
