(KAIR) -- A 20-year-old Atchison man pleads guilty to attempted robbery of an elderly man Monday in Atchison County District Court.
Matthew Newgent accepted the plea deal that also included a guilty plea to two vehicular burglaries.
In exchange, counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and misdemeanor theft were dismissed.
He and Christopher “Tony” Smith of Winsdor, Missouri were arrested August 27th for trying to rob an 82-year-old Atchison man that morning.
The duo was later charged with a string of car burglaries that occurred hours before the attempted robbery.
A third individual involved, 17-year-old Dalton Dyer also recently pled guilty to two vehicular burglary counts as part of a plea deal.
In exchange, counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, criminal damage and theft were dismissed.
Sentencing for all three is scheduled for October 22nd.
Smith and Newgent were released on a PR bond as they qualify for presumptive probation while Dyer remains in Atchison County Jail on 20 thousand dollars bond.
