MGP Christmas Star Returns
11/28/2012

(KAIR) -- A Christmas staple that has been missing in action for the past two years has returned to Atchison.

The Christmas star which once hung on top the mill at MGP Ingredients has new returned to a new location on the property along a catwalk on Main Street.

An official lighting of the star took place with Bud Cray flipping the switch at three Wednesday afternoon.

Originally part of Pillsbury Plant for several years, the star’s possession was adopted when MGP Ingredients bought them out and transferred from the feed mill to the flour mill.

The current incarnation of the star is the second one.

Originally built in 1972 by Joe Clark and Norman Jones, the star stood atop of the flour mill until it was torn down in 2010.

It was at that time when the company’s former electrician, Charlie Cline refurbished it.

It also became more environmentally friendly; now set to go on upon sunset.

The star will be illuminated through the holiday season.
