Atchison Sign Ordinance Modifications Adopted

(KAIR) -- An ordinance around a year in the making on revamping sign regulations for properties in the City of Atchison has been passed.

The ordinance was unanimously adopted by City Commissioners Tuesday, following seven workshops and unanimous recommendation from the Planning Commission.

City Manager Trey Cocking read off submitted questions answered by Community Development Director Stefanie Leif, who is out on maternity leave.

Questions then arose about how much of the windows should be allowed to be covered or “blacked out.”

Commissioner Jack Bower, who was making City Commissioner meeting history by attending the meeting via Facetime from Guatemala, says there should be some leeway but not total covering.

Commissioners decided they can opt to re-examine the window coverage section ordinance in future meetings.
