Charges to be Dropped Against Drug Sweep Suspects

(KAIR) -- An informant that helped Atchison police arrest 20 people on drug charges has turned out to be the key to their freedom.

Charges for most of the suspects in the case were dropped Tuesday during a hearing in Atchison County District Court.

The charges - mostly connected to distributing controlled pharmaceuticals - stem from a 4-month investigation late last year.

Atchison County Attorney Gerald Kuckelman said the state received new information which compromised the integrity of the confidential informant used during the investigation.

The remaining suspects are expected to have their charges dismissed  later this month.
