Atchison Senior Village to Dedicate Hospice Room
02/06/2013

(KAIR) -- A new special care room for hospice patients at Atchison Senior Village will be dedicated next week.

A ribbon cutting ceremony dedicated to the memory of Trudy Kidwell will be held at 3:30 Friday afternoon, February 15, at the Senior Village.

Recognizing the need for a dedicated, private room for residents and their families during the difficult days of transition, the Kidwell family proposed the concept to the Senior Village staff.

Senior Village openly embraced the idea and work began to remodel an existing room to first and foremost provide comfort to the residents and families in need as well as meet any medical challenge.

With the donations of family, friends and organizations and the significant support from Senior Village, the room is now complete.

The location of the room within the facility intentionally does not isolate those who will use it but it will minimize disturbance to the other residents.

Dubbed the “Cardinal Care Room” because of the special cardinal-themed artwork the family donated, it is equipped to meet the needs of the resident, family, nursing and hospice personnel.

A comfortable yet unobtrusive area for visitors provides seating and amenities such as a TV/DVD player combo, coffeemaker, microwave, and refrigerator.
