(KAIR) -- A 21-year-old Atchison man has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a December convenience store burglary.

John Portis pled guilty Monday to charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, felony obstruction and felony theft.  In exchange, a count of burglary was dismissed.

Portis and a juvenile were arrested for conspiring to break into Quick Stop east in Atchison.

After police arrived, Portis later fled by foot and was apprehended a short time later.

He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery count for getting into a fight with Christopher Blanchard while in the Atchison County Jail.

Sentencing is set for April 8th.

Atchison County District Judge Martin Asher ordered Portis to go to Larned State Hospital for the duration of his pre-sentence report’s filing.
