(KTNC) - A proposed Lodging Tax in Mound City is on hold. Aldermen last week agreed to wait until this summer or fall to hold a hearing on the tax, after meeting with local hotel owners.
Super 8 Motel owner Jack Patel and Henry Just, the owner of Audrey’s Motel, told the council that business is down and they don’t know if the tax would generate the funds the city anticipates.
Patel said he would like the city to bring in more businesses, and said he has plans for other ventures west of Interstate 29.
The council has been discussing using a lodging tax to fund tourism-related activities in Mound City. The city would need legislation approved at the state level to proceed with the tax. State Representative Mike Thompson had introduced legislation that would allow a lodging tax in Mound City, but he will not push for the legislation for now.
