(KAIR) -- Budget season is around the corner and Atchison City Commissioners Monday night set the first workshop to outline 2014 funding.
They set a tentative date of the evening of April 9th from five to eight to conduct the first-ever Goal Planning Workshop.
A majority of the commissioner meeting centered around a debate on whether each Commissioner should meet with a third party facilitator hired by the city to independently help them outline their funding goals for the city.
City Manager Trey Cocking says the idea is one of many directions the city can now go since revenues have stabilized.

Ultimately, Commissioners by consensus decided to hold off hiring a third party facilitator for this year.
In other business, Commissioners finalized the new ADA advisory board.
They appointed Paul Ogle, Dian Smith and Dave Purcell to three year terms, Mike Hinds, Linda Wallace and Faye Miller to two year terms and Dave Hager, James Martinez and Penny Long to one-year terms.
They also tabled the 2013 Nuisance Abatement bids.
This came following Commissioner Larry Purcell’s suggestion to look into saving costs by having abatements and mowing services remain in-house.
City staff will study the cost effectiveness and bring the issue back at the next meeting.
