Mound City Council Plan Hearing on Lodging Tax
03/21/2013

(KTNC) - A proposed Lodging Tax will be the focus of a special meeting of the Mound City Board of Aldermen.  The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday at City Hall.
The meeting will serve as an open forum where Mound City residents can express their views on the proposed tax.
Aldermen have been discussing the lodging tax idea since last fall.  Communities use the tax generally to fund tourism related activities.  Under Missouri law, Mound City would need approval of the state legislature before enacting a lodging tax.
Mound City hotel owners have expressed opposition to a lodging tax.  They say their business is down, and the tax wouldn’t generate the amount of revenue the city anticipates.
The City of Rock Port has a lodging tax, which generates approximately $36,000 annually.
