(KTNC) - The Johnson-Brock School Board reviewed a lengthy list of applicants seeking to fill the K-12 Principal position during a special meeting Monday afternoon.
Thirty-two people applied for the position. In a closed session during a special meeting Monday afternoon, the board narrowed the list of applicants to eight who will be interviewed for the position.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says they hope to schedule the interviews next week and hire someone for the position at the April 8th board meeting. The position came open when longtime Johnson-Brock Principal Jacque Kelsay accepted a position as Elementary Principal in the Auburn School District.
In open session Monday, Koehler says some parents voiced their support for having the district take over the pre-school program. The pre-school is now community-based program. Koehler says they could include more children in the program if the school district were to operate the pre-school. (play audio :30)
Koehler says there is a limit of 15 children in the program now, with 10 now in the first session and 12 in the second. He says they’re at capacity for next year and there is a need to expand the program. (play audio :42)
The pre-school program was a discussion item Monday night, and Koehler says it will likely be an action item during the April 8th meeting.
The Johnson-Brock school board also met with an architect Monday, as they consider the best way to add needed classroom space onto the current school building in Johnson. (play audio :24)
From there, Koehler says the board would then discuss the best way to proceed and how to finance any building addition. He says public forums would be scheduled to allow district patrons to offer input on any proposed building project.
