Atchison Fire/Bartlett Grain Trains on Grain Bin Entrapment
03/27/2013

(KAIR) -- Members of the Atchison Fire Department and employees of Bartlett Grain took part in an exercise Tuesday afternoon, simulating a grain bin entrapment and rescue attempt.

The grain engulfment rescue class uses a trailer owned by the University of Kansas.

Captain Lee Kipple was one of the firemen and 13 Bartlett employees that participated.

Kipple says the trailer is relatively new and training on this exercise will be difficult to have annually.

Kipple says the fire department doesn’t own grain engulfment rescue equipment; however, Bartlett does and has agreed to let them use the equipment if the situation should arise either at their facility, or at other grain storage facilities around the area.
