(KAIR) -- A group of Jefferson County citizens used Monday’s County Commissioner meeting to get questions answered about their property tax valuations and the appeal process.
Tom Ryan, Mary Cronemeyer and Don & Maxine Bryant met with the board and Appraiser Teresa Hattemer.
Ryan discussed an issue with the valuation of his business going back up after a Court of Tax Appeals hearing lowered the value.
The Bryant’s, who own a bed and breakfast, said they had problems with the appeal process as well.
The group asked that their values stay at the level granted by the appeals process and to not be required to provide income and expense statements more frequently than every two years.
The Appraiser said if complete income and expense statements were provided each year, she would be able to establish an accurate income value.
Hattemer also said an error was discovered in the Bryant’s 2013 value and it will be lowered to the 2012 level while a hearing has been scheduled for Ryan’s 2013 valuation.
Going forward, Commissioners suggested Hattemer to be clear and revise the form about the needs and requirements when sending out letters for income and expense information to make it easier to understand and use.
