(KTNC) - Nearly 50 loads of garbage, debris, scraps, rubbish – and bathtubs – were hauled away Saturday during Peru’s second annual community clean up.
More than 100 volunteers from Peru State College and 20 community volunteers helped load 15 trucks with discarded items left curbside by Peru residents. Two loads of electronic items were taken to Auburn for disposal.
Most of the Peru State students who participated were student-athletes and various campus organizations – including Rotaract, PILOT, Red Cross Club, Student Senate, and the Student Athlete Advisory Council. The clean up planning committee included Chamber of Commerce president Ken Hastings, City Clerk Cindy Moran, Angela Allgood, Chelsea Allgood, Terry Clark, Steve Schneider, Peggy Groff, and Peru State First Lady Elaine Hanson.
This year was the second year for the Peru clean up event. While a lot of debris was collected, organizers say there was not as much this year as during the initial clean up event last year.
