Countywide Animal Control Officer Proposed in Jeff Co
05/15/2013

(KAIR) -- A proposal has been made to Jefferson County Commissioners for the creation of a county-wide animal control officer position.

Jared Bammes, a dog catcher out of Oskaloosa, asked the board Monday to create the new position for him in the county.

Bammes proposed that the county get funding from surrounding cities and subdivisions to help offset the cost of the program.

After meeting with those municipalities, Bammes says each agreed to pay 200 dollars a month for coverage.

He says if the county would pay the remainder, he would like 22 hundred dollars a month for a 40 hour work week and to be on call.

Sheriff Jeff Herrig and Undersheriff Bob Chartier were present for the discussion and were interested in contracting the service to free up officers, but not necessarily paying for an employee.

The board took no action on the proposal.
