(KAIR) -- Several runners ran the hills of Atchison running Saturday morning in an effort to promote greater wellness for the community.
The first annual “Trot to the Top” 5k/10k produced 68 total runners and YMCA officials are still tabulating the final amount raised for the event.
In a photo finish for the 5k, Evan Wheeler edged out Joe Asher by four tenths of a second to take home the crown with a finishing time of 21 minutes and 55 seconds.
In the 10k, Bryan Clark took home first, besting the field by over three minutes with a time of 41 minutes and six seconds.
“Live Well, Live Atchison” is an initiative from the Atchison Hospital that began when a study of health rankings had Atchison County ranking last in the state in health behaviors.
The committee was created as in investment in the current and future health of Atchison County in an effort to improve healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
The Atchison Family YMCA will donate a portion of the proceeds towards the initiative.
