McCoy Officially Joins Nebraska GOP Governor's Race

    LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska state Sen. Beau McCoy is jumping into the 2014 governor's race with a statewide campaign tour.
     The Republican state senator formally announced his bid Tuesday in Omaha. McCoy was expected to visit 20 Nebraska cities this week, with a campaign focus on lowering taxes and controlling spending, while ensuring stable state funding for education.
     McCoy also pointed to his experience as a businessman who started his own roofing and home improvement company. McCoy grew up on a cattle ranch in Colorado, near the Nebraska border.
     McCoy is the fifth GOP candidate who is looking the replace Gov. Dave Heineman, who is term limited. The other candidates are state Sens. Tom Carlson and Charlie Janssen, State Auditor Mike Foley and Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts.
