(KTNC) - The coordinator of Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership’s Head Start Family Partnerships is celebrating four decades with SENCA.
Mary Jane Gist began her career in Head Start on September 3, 1973, working part-time as a Social Service Aide in Falls City. Over the years, her career with SENCA has focused on working with families and children, through her title has changed several times.
The Social Service Aide job transitioned into Social Service Advocate in the 1980s, and she moved into the position of Literacy Coordinator when her son Thomas was born in 1989.
Mary Jane was promoted to a coordinator position in 1990 for the Head Start program and began working at the SENCA Central Office in Humboldt. Today, she is the Family Partner Coordinator.
In addition to working for SENCA, Mary Jane was employed for three plus years with the Department of Health and Human Services as a part-time support worker, helping teen moms attend parenting classes.
She was honored for her 40 years of service to children and families at SENCA’s staff meeting in Auburn on August 23rd.
