(KAIR)--The Leavenworth fire department will soon welcome a new chief. According a press release from the city of Leavenworth, Gary Birch will take over the reigns of the department starting Thursday.
Birch comes to Leavenworth with more than 35 years of fire service, including 27 years with the Kansas City, Mo Fire Department. He has also worked for the Liberty, MO Fire department, retiring from that position in 2010.
The release states that Birch was hired through the city's normal hiring process, with a selection committee
involved as well.
Birch replaces Acting Fire Chief Mark Nietzke who will return to his duties as Deputy Fire Chief.
