Twin Valley League Tournament (3 games)

Centralia vs. Bern (Boy’s Varsity):

"Player to Bank": Brett Burdiek (Centralia) 13 points

 

Centralia Panthers continue their success in the Twin Valley League tournament with another win taking down the Bern Indians, 55-44. It wasn’t an easy one for the Panthers has they trailed by six after the first quarter, but used a 16-8 second quarter to take a two point lead into the half. Coming out of halftime Centralia utilized another stable scoring output in the third quarter to increase their led and move on to the semifinals of the Twin Valley League tournament.

 

Six players tallied points in the game for the Panthers with three finishing with double figures. Sophomore, Sam Steinlage netted 12 points, while senior forward, Michael Glatczak and sophomore forward, Brett Burdiek each notched 13 points. Burdiek earned himself the United Bank & Trust "Player to Bank On" award has he not only tied a team high in points but also made plenty of hustle plays and heads up decisions throughout the contest being a spark off the bench. The Indians had three players finish in double figures as well, with junior guard, Graham Droge netting game high 15 points for Bern in the loss.

 

With the win Centralia improved to 8-1 on the season and advanced to the Twin Valley League tournament semifinals, where they will face Frankfort on Friday. Bern fell to 7-2 with the loss and will play Onaga in the consolation bracket.
 

 

Centralia vs. B&B (Girl’s Varsity):
 
"Player to Bank On": Vanessa Burdiek (Centralia) 12 points

 

The B&B Falcons and Centralia Panthers squads faced off last year in the tournament with B&B notching the win in the three vs. six seed matchup and the found themselves in the same circumstance here, but it was Centralia who grabbed the win this time, 38-28. It was tied after the first quarter at 10, then Centralia grabbed a three point lead going into the half and didn’t look back from there.

 

It was sophomore guard, Vanessa Burdiek and junior forward, Michelle Haug leading the way for the Panthers each netting 12 points in the contest. Burdiek earned herself the United Bank & Trust "Player to Bank On" award with her overall performance in the game coming up with mulitple keys plays on the defensive and offensive end throughout the game for the Panthers and her game high 12 points, also. Only one Falcons scored in double figures that being senior guard, Caitlin Deters, notching 10 points, in the loss for B&B.

 

With the win Centralia moves on the Twin Valley League tournament semifinals to face off against Wetmore on Thursday evening and improves to 6-3 on the season. B&B falls to 7-3 with the loss and will play Blue Valley in the consolation bracket on Thursday.

 

 
Washington County vs. B&B (Boy’s Varsity):
 
"Player to Bank On": Curtis Stallbaumer (B&B) 17 points
 
It was a rematch of a earlier regular season matchup, as the Washington County Tigers took on the B&B Falcons in Twin Valley League tournament action. B&B was able to get the best of Washington County the first time with a 45-34 win and the Falcons notched another victory over the Tigers on Monday night, 49-30 to move on in the tournament. The Falcons utilized a big first quarter to take the lead and 17-6 fourth quarter to seal the game.

 

The offense for the Falcons got an early spark from junior center, Curtis Stallbaumer scoring six of his 17 points in the first quarter. Stallbaumer utilized his agility and size down low to get offensive rebounds and put-backs throughout the game for B&B, that and his game high 17 points, earned him the United Bank & Trust "Player to Bank On" award. Senior forward, Cody Heiman, also finished with double digit points for the Falcons, tallying 10 points. The Tigers of Washington County were able to only get one player to finish with more than five points on the night, that being senior center, Mitchell Walter who scored 10 points for the Tigers.

 

Washington County fell to 7-4 with the loss, while B&B improved to 9-1 with the win and advanced to the Twin Valley League tournament semifinals on Friday, where they will face off against Hanover.
