Boil water advisory: part lifted, part remains in place
11/04/2025

(KAIR)--The boil water advisory for Atchison County Rural Water District 5C has been lifted.

That word was delivered late Tuesday morning by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, which says that while the advisory is lifted, that does not affect the City of Lancaster, in Atchison County, and Doniphan County Rural Water District 3, in Doniphan County, with those two water supply systems remaining under the boil water advisory.

As for the lifting of RWD 5C's advisory, KDHE says laboratory testing of drinking water samples collected from the rural water district indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.

The advisory was issued because of a waterline break resulting in a loss of pressure in the distribution system, with failure to maintain adequate pressure possibly resulting in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

The City of Lancaster water supply system, in Atchison County, and Doniphan Co RWD 3, remain under the advisory until further notice.
