Senator Nelson Urging Progress on Road Projects
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson is calling on federal
authorities to speed up the repair of nearly two dozen Nebraska
roads and bridges _ some that have been on hold since 2008.
The Nebraska Democrat said Wednesday that he has written to
Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez about the issue. In the
letter, Nelson asks for a detailed list of every document and step
which must be completed for each flood repair project in Nebraska.
Nelson also asked that the Federal Highway Administration give an
updated status report on the list every 60 days.
Nelson says the drawn-out process may lead him to push for
waivers of what he deemed redundant environmental reviews during
the repair of roads damaged by natural disasters, such as last
year's Missouri River flooding.
