The 61st annual GFWC Art Contest and Exhibit opened Wednesday afternoon in the Stalder Gallery at the Falls City Library and Arts Center.
The show, co-sponsored by the Falls City Chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Richardson County Arts and Humanities Council, features artwork by kindergarten through 12th grade students from Auburn, Falls City Public, Sacred Heart, and Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Schools. There are 552 works in the exhibit, about 50 fewer than last year.
Three judges determined winners in each grade level through 9th grade, and in various categories for 10th through 12th grade entries. Winners received prizes donated by local businesses. Rita Seid (sid) coordinates the show. (play audio :45)
Seid says approximately 25-to-30 works from the local show will advance to the State Contest.
This year’s “Best of Show” winner was a mixed media entry by Falls City High School junior Mariah Stamper.
The Student Art Exhibit will remain at the Stalder Gallery through March 10th. It can be viewed during regular Library hours.
