A decision, regarding a controversial school closure proposal, could be known as soon as Saturday.
That follows public hearings, held by the Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education, regarding the fates of the Bern School and the Summerfield Elementary.
During those hearings, public voices of opposition were heard, and written questions from patrons collected.
Those questions were discussed during a board workshop held Saturday; and, according to Superintendent Dennis Stones, following several hours spent addressing them, the board has scheduled another meeting for this coming Saturday morning...and a possible vote could be taken regarding the future of the schools(Play Audio :27 seconds)
Saturday's meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Sabetha Middle School Auditorium.
A decision, regarding the fate of the schools, is made necessary, according to district officials, because of declining enrollments, state funding losses, and the age of the facilities.

Correction-Enrollment INCREASED at Bern. State funding has not been determined yet. The schools in question function fine for the students that attend them. Oh yeah, they dont even need a 5 million dollar gym to make themselves feel special.
