The sound of saws cutting rock and hammers nailing shingles as well as periods of single lane traffic has been common for the past few weeks around the First Presbyterian Church in Atchison.
Since March 1st, the historic building has been making renovations to its rooftops and exterior.
Weathering over time has been the blame behind the deterioration of the roof and bell tower.
According to the Chairman of the church’s finance committee, Aaron Weaver, there has been some funds raised for this project.

Weaver says progress is moving along as scheduled and while an exact date of completion is unknown, he anticipates the construction to last into the summer months.
The church was first constructed in 1880 and 81 with congregational roots tracing back to 1858.
The building is based from early English Gothic style with stone exterior.
Wednesday is the first day for interim pastor Rachel Dannar.
As of 2008, there had only been 22 pastors in the pulpit.
