Mound City Aldermen approved the annual budget when they met last week. The budget covers the fiscal year that runs from this July 1st through June 30th of next year. The council unanimously approved both the first and second readings of the ordinance approving the budget during the meeting.
The budget approved included a couple changes that were made at the May meeting. Aldermen added $20,000 to help fund construction of a new pool bathhouse. Half of that will come from the Capital Improvement fund and half will come from the Park fund. The changes also included a three-percent wage increase for full-time city employees, and decreasing the amount for concrete at the equipment building by $5,000.
The budget projects revenues of a little more than $1.2 million, with operating expenses and capital expenditures of a little over $1.5 million. The city will cover the difference with funds from cash carryover and replacement accounts from the current year.
The council approved a couple other ordinances. One authorized Mayor Chris Krueger to sign the necessary documents for the redemption of the outstanding Waterworks and sewer system bonds issued in 2002, and the outstanding general obligation refunding bonds issued in 2003.
The council also authorized the sale of the property at 611 State Street to M Rogers, Incorporated.
In other business, Mound City Aldermen approved the appointments of Chris Boultinghouse, Gwen Knowles, and Jacqueline Peterson to three-year terms on the Public Library Board.
