(KAIR) -- With the opening of a new Missouri River bridge due any day, the Atchison County Historical Society Museum has opened a special exhibit looking at the past of the Mo-Kan Free Bridge – also known as the Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge – and the challenges and benefits of being a river town.
“Crossing the Big Muddy” and a special exhibit of the animated Pink Santa from the old Ramsey’s Department Store are coming on exhibit just in time to greet the many Thanksgiving holiday visitors returning to Atchison over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The Museum and Visitor’s Center in the Santa Fe Depot, 200 S. 10th Street, will be open Friday, from noon to four, Saturday from 10 to four and Sunday from noon to four.
Visitors may write their thoughts and memories of the old bridge – and have them added to the exhibit for others to enjoy.
“Crossing the Big Muddy” will be on exhibit through the rest of 2012.
Museum admission is by donation.
