Rural Atchison Man Given Over a Decade in Prison
12/10/2012

(KAIR) -- A 28-year-old Atchison County man is given just over 14 years in prison on various charges related to a late August kidnapping, as well as several other unsolved cases dating back a decade.

Stephen Kinzer was sentenced Monday in Atchison County District Court.

Kinzer was arrested in late August by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department for conspiring to break into the Tony Baker residence at 9249 Ottawa Road.  The kidnapping charge arises from Baker being held at gunpoint by Kinzer when he returned home.

Kinzer also was sentenced in connection with other crimes discovered during the investigation, including the burglary of a machine shed and theft of gasoline in August.

In addition, he was sentenced on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which was discovered in a search of his residence during the kidnapping investigation.

Kinzer also was sentenced for a May 2010 burglary of a county residence and the theft of Atchison Police Officer Brent Duncan’s revolver in February 2003.

Kinzer’s brother, Reagan, will make his next appearance in court on Friday for his alleged role in the kidnapping investigation.
