( KNZA )-Most area northeast Kansas counties saw an increase in unemployment last month.
According to a new report released Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor, Brown County was the only area county to see a drop in it’s jobless rate over November—falling one-tenth of a percent to 4.6 percent.
Nemaha County had the lowest unemployment rate at 3 percent, while Atchison County had the highest at 6.8 percent.
Leavenworth County’s jobless rate in December was 6.3 percent; Jackson, 6 percent; Jefferson, 5.7 percent; Doniphan, 5.1 percent; Pottawatomie, 4.5 percent; and Marshall, 3.8 percent.
All the unemployment rates were down from December 2011.
The Kansas unemployment rate held steady at 5.4 percent last month while the state recorded modest job growth compared to the previous year. Last month’s jobless figure was down one full point from 6.4 percent in December 2011.
