(KAIR) -- A well-known Atchison businessman will be serving on the Atchison Planning Commission.
Sports bar owner D.J. Bruce was unanimously appointed to a term that expires July 31st 2015 Monday night during the Atchison City Commissioner meeting.
He replaces Dana Davis, who resigned from the post to take a job in Pennsylvania.
Commissioners also approved a bid for the fire department to buy a 2013 Chevrolet three-quarter ton truck from Lewis Chevrolet for 25 thousand 831 dollars four to one with Commissioner Larry Purcell voting nay.
Purcell questioned the purchase of a new truck while Comissioner Rita Hartman and City Manager Trey Cocking explained the benefits of going new instead of pre-owned.

This truck will replace a truck purchased in 1991.
Commissioners also approved a cost share on the demolition of the home at 124 North 3rd recently destroyed by a fire last week four to one with Commissioner Purcell voting nay.
Purcell wasn’t in favor of the cost share since the property had assets.
Commissioners agreed to re-visit the cost share policy in the future.
